Projects:

Using designed experiments, we attempt to answer the following questions: (1) How to measure nanobubble size and shape accurately and truly non-invasively using the AFM? (2) What is the relationship between the nature of the surface in contact with the corresponding liquid, i.e. (a) its interfacial free energies and (b) the surface’s nanoscale topography on the one hand, and the properties (nanoscopic contact angles, nanobubble size distribution, surface coverages, mutual spacing, and bubble lifetime) of surface nanobubbles on the other hand? (3) What are the consequences of nanobubbles and the properties of submerged gas - liquid menisci for other nano- to macroscale phenomena, such as protein adsorption.
