Luminescence Properties of s2 Ions
In this project, compounds with s2 ions (e.g. Pb2+, Sb3+, Sn2+, Bi3+ and SeO32-) are synthesized. If necessary, the crystal structure of these compounds is additionally solved and their optical properties characterized. An extremely intense bright white luminescence is observed in Sb3 +-doped compounds. Moreover, interesting details about the relation between the position of the electronic states and the structure of the lone pair can be acquired. Since the currently used lamps are composed of lanthanide-based materials, which are produced almost exclusively in China, s2 ions are promising alternative luminescent materials for lamps.
