New Materials for Inorganic, Energy-Saving Solar Cells
Currently, mostly Si-based materials are used for producing photovoltaic cells. However, they are characterized by a low, insufficient efficiency below 30%. In order to be able to use the short-wavelength range of the solar spectrum more efficiently, materials shall be used, which perform the so-called Quantum-Cutting processes, resulting in a quantum yield of up to 200%. For the long-wavelength spectral range, up-conversion materials may be applied.
